ROYALS COMPLETE DEAL WITH RAIDERS
Victoria acquires unsigned prospect Hunter Strand & draft picks from Prince Albert.

Victoria, BC – The Victoria Royals are pleased to announce that the club has acquired unsigned forward Hunter Strand (2002), a third round pick in the 2019 WHL Bantam Draft, and a sixth and 10th round pick in the 2018 draft from the Prince Albert Raiders. In exchange the Royals have sent overage forward Regan Nagy (1997) to the Raiders.
A product of Anchorage, AK, Strand currently plays for the Alaska Oilers Under-16 Midget AAA team in the Alaska State Hockey Association (ASHA). In 21 games for the Oilers this season, Strand leads the team in points (42) and goals (26) to go along with four penalty minutes. This past July, Strand attended the 2017 USA Hockey Boys Select 15 Player Development Camp for Team Forest. In three contests he finished tied for first in scoring on his team with two goals and two assists.
In December of 2016, Strand recorded 10 goals and eight assists through five games at the Rick LaPointe Memorial Bantam AAA Tournament in Victoria, BC.
The Anchorage, AK native was selected by the Raiders in the sixth round, 120th overall at the 2017 WHL Bantam Draft.
Going to the Raiders is overage forward Regan Nagy. In 26 games for the Royals this season, the product of Ogema, SK, has recorded 24 points (18g-6a) and 33 minutes in penalties.
“Regan has been a part of this team since the bantam draft in 2012,” Royals’ President & General Manager Cameron Hope said. “He has played more than 250 games as a Royal over parts of six seasons. We can’t thank him enough for his contributions, on-and-off the ice, and we wish him every success in the future.”
Last season, the 6-0, 195 lb winger set career-high numbers in points (41), goals (18) and assists (23) through 69 contests.
The 1997-born Nagy has suited up in 253 career WHL games (2013-2017) for Victoria and has totaled 97 points (50g-47a) to go along with 145 penalty minutes. Nagy has also appeared in 29 games in the WHL Playoffs where he has recorded 11 points (5g-6a) and posted 12 penalty minutes.
The five-year WHL veteran has been with the Royals’ organization for over five and a half years and was originally drafted by the club in the second round, 27th overall at the 2012 WHL Bantam Draft.
Victoria returns home for a contest with the Everett Silvertips on Friday, January 5th at the Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre for the team’s first home game of 2018.
