Victoria upended by Prince George 4-3 in Pre-Season finale.

Langley, BC- The Victoria Royals were topped 4-3 in overtime by the Prince George Cougars on Sunday afternoon at the Langley Events Centre as part of the Giants’ Pre-Season Tournament.

For the fourth consecutive contest, Victoria went with a mixture of youth and experience in their line-up as they dressed eight rookies and 12 veterans. Prince George dressed nine veterans and 11 rookies.

The Cougars’ Ethan O’Rourke registered the overtime winner, his second goal of the game, on the powerplay. Aaron Boyd and Josh Maser scored the other goals for Prince George.

The Royals’ Igor Martynov knotted the game 3-3 late in the third period, with his second marker of the afternoon, to send the contest to overtime. Victoria’s Jared Legien scored the club’s remaining tally in the middle frame, his team leading fourth goal of the pre-season.

Victoria rookie goaltender Hunter Arps made his Royals’ debut and turned aside 34 of the 38 shots fired at him. Prince George countered with the duo of Taylor Gauthier and Isaiah DiLaura who combined to make 25 saves on 28 shots.

The Royals were 0/4=0.0% with the man-advantage, while the Cougars held a mark of 1/7=14.3%.

Victoria scratched veterans Griffen Outhouse, Ralph Jarratt and rookie Brock Gould; along with regulars Chaz Reddekopp, Tyler Soy, Matthew Phillips and Scott Walford who were all away attending NHL training camps.
