FRIDAY – MAINROAD WINTER DRIVING AWARENESS & DOWNIE WENJACK FUND NIGHT
Mainroad and Kal Tire will be reminding fans throughout the game to Shift into Winter by providing safety tips, winter road maintenance displays, including a snow plow, and information on how to prepare for winter road conditions.
As part of the night, Mike Downie, the Co-Founder of the Downie & Wenjack Fund as well as the co-creator of the graphic novel and film, The Secret Path, will be in attendance.
The Downie Wenjack Fund was established as part of Gord Downie’s legacy to bring awareness of the true history of Indigenous People and to generate discussion to forge new relationships between Indigenous and non-Indigenous Canadians.
The first 100 fans upon entrance will receive ice scrapers for their vehicle, while one lucky fan will get a chance to win a pair of Nokian Winter tires courtesy of Kal Tire.
Mainroad vehicles, including a snow plough, will be on display outside of Gate 1.
During a special pre-game ceremony and puck drop, Mike Downie will be presented with a custom-painted goalie mask by General Manager Cameron Hope and local artist Travis Michael, who has painted all of the Royals’ goalie masks since 2014. Michael designed two identical masks for this night. The masks pay tribute to Gord Downie’s past as an artist and goalie as well as reflect the story of The Secret Path.
