Victoria drafts Belarusian forward 30th overall.

Victoria, BC- The Victoria Royals are proud to announce the selection of 1999-born Belarusian forward Igor Martynov, 30th overall, in the 2017 Canadian Hockey League (CHL) Import Draft this morning.
A product of Krasnoye, Belarus, Martynov spent the 2016-17 season with the Belarus Under-20 club of the Belarus Extra League where he recorded 11 points (4g-7a) and two minutes in penalties over 20 games. Martynov also took part in six contests for the Belarus Under-18 team in the Belarus High League and tallied six points (3g-3a) to go with four penalty minutes.
“We are very happy that we were able to select Igor Martynov this morning,” President and General Manager Cameron Hope said. “His play this year, especially at the World Under-18’s in April, confirmed for us that he would be a great fit for our style of play. Igor is a skilled player with a great shot, and we are excited to welcome him to Victoria.”
Martynov gained international experience at the 2017 Under-18 World Championships where he led Belarus in scoring with seven points (3g-4a) in seven contests. Martynov also added two assists in five games for Team Belarus at the 2017 IIHF Under-20 Division 1, Group A World Championships. Belarus finished the tournament with a 4-0-1 record and will now take part in the 2018 World Junior Championships in Buffalo, NY.
During the 2015-16 campaign, the 6-0, 181 forward played for Dinamo-Raubichi of the Belarusian High League and led his team in scoring with 34 points (16g-18a) and 24 penalty minutes through 34 games. Martynov also added 13 points (9g-4a) in 15 playoff games as his club reached the league finals.
Martynov was originally selected by the Peterborough Petes in Round 2, 83rd overall, in the 2016 CHL Import Draft. He was also drafted by Dinamo Minsk in Round 3, 73rd overall, in the 2016 Kontinental Hockey League Draft.
The CHL Import Draft is an annual event in which clubs from all three leagues (Ontario Hockey League, Quebec Major Junior Hockey League and Western Hockey League) select players born outside of North America.
