Victoria, BC- The Victoria Royals’ Jack Walker scored the shootout winner and Griffen Outhouse made 41 saves, which included both shooters in the shootout, on Friday night to take down the Kamloops Blazers 2-1 at the Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre.

With his marker, Walker passed former Chilliwack Bruin Mark Santorelli for the most shootout winners in franchise history with four.

Both netminders were solid throughout the contest. Outhouse’s best work for the Royals came in extra time when he made back-to-back stops on Kamloops’ Deven Sideroff, first with the glove while sprawled out and then with an outstretched right pad save on a breakaway. The Blazers’ Connor Ingram stopped 20 of the 21 pucks directed his way that included multiple scoring chances for Victoria from point-blank range.

The Royals opened the scoring in the middle frame when Matthew Phillips finished a passing play between himself and Tyler Soy. With an assist on the goal, Soy stretched his point streak to 12 games, which is the club’s longest streak of the season, where he has earned 22 points (8g-14a). Soy would also tally a goal in the shootout. Kamloops’ Ondrej Vala registered the lone marker for the visitors.

Victoria held an 0/5=0.0% mark on the powerplay, while the Blazers went 1/3=33.3% with the man-advantage.

The Royals wrap-up their homestand tomorrow night when they face Kamloops with puck drop scheduled for 7:05 p.m. All fans that had tickets for Wednesday night’s game, in attendance or not, can exchange it for a new one to tomorrow’s contest. Tickets can be redeemed in person at the Select Your Tickets Box Office.
