Patton propels Royals to 6-4 road win over Silvertips

Victoria will play their final game of the 2022-2023 regular season tomorrow night at the SOFMC

Forward Teague Patton collected a team-high three points on two goals and an assist to lead the Victoria Royals to a 6-4 win over the Everett Silvertips at Angel of the Winds Arena on Friday.

The Kelowna, BC product has been one of the most consistent producers on the ice for Victoria this season, totalling 47 points on 16 goals and 31 assists over 67 games.

The Royals also benefited from multi-point performances from defencemen Nate Misskey (one goal, one assist) and Austin Zemlak (two assists), while starting goaltender Braden Holt stopped 26 of 30 shots against in the win.

Forward Jackson Berezowski would finish as the top-performer for the Silvertips with three goals, while starting goalie Tyler Palmer stopped four of seven shots before being replaced by backup Tim Metzger, who made 22 saves on 25 shots after entering the game midway through the first period.

Defenceman Nate Misskey (5) would strike at 1:05 of the first period to give Victoria (17-43-6-1) an early 1-0 lead. Defenceman Austin Zemlak and forward Teague Patton would record assists on the play.

That would soon be followed by an unassisted goal off the stick of forward Teydon Trembecky (12) to put the Royals up 2-0 at the 2:10 mark.

Victoria would keep up the pressure and extend their lead to 3-0 on a goal by forward Tanner Scott (13) at 9:32, assisted by forwards Marcus Almquist and Riley Gannon.

The Royals 3-0 lead would hold until the 2:25 mark of the second when Everett (32-32-2-1) forward Jackson Berezowski (45) scored a powerplay goal to cut the lead to 3-1.

The ‘Tips would then follow up with a goal by Raphael Pelletier (17) at 11:57 of the second to bring the score to 3-2.

However, the Royals would soon regain the two-goal advantage on a goal by forward Teague Patton (15) at the 13:52 mark. Kalem Parker would pick up the lone assist on the play.

Patton (16) would strike again at the start of the third, cutting through the Silvertips defence and netting a highlight-reel goal at 4:38 of the frame to put the Royals up 5-2.

Defencemen Austin Zemlak and Nate Misskey would collect assists on the play.

The Silvertips would get one back On Jackson Berezowski’s (46) second goal of the night at 6:50 of the third.

But the Royals would quickly put a stop to Everett’s comeback attempt with a goal by forward Alex Thacker (9) at the 10:40 mark to bring the score to 6-3. Forward Brayden Schuurman would assist on the goal.

Berezowski (47) would complete the hat trick at the 19:52 mark of the third to cut the lead to two in the dying seconds, however, that is as close as Everett would get, and Victoria would take home the 6-4 victory.

The Silvertips and Royals will face off in the final game of the 2022-2023 regular season tomorrow night at the Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre in Victoria. Puck drop is set for 6:05 pm
