Reschny and Saskatoon Blazers look ahead to Men’s U18 National Club Championship

Reschny was named a 2023 West Regional Top Forward and All Star Forward

Just over a week after being named Provincial Champions, Royals prospect Cole Reschny and the Saskatoon Blazers punched their ticket to the 2023 Men’s U18 National Club Championship after winning the West Regional Championship over the Warman Wildcats in overtime by a score of 4-3.

During tournament play, Reschny picked up 4 goals and 4 assists for 8 points to help his team remain perfect (4-0) in round robin and championship play. Reschny tied for second in team scoring, only trailing 17-year-old teammate Raiden Zacharias.

He was also named a 2023 West Regional All-Star Forward, and the Top Forward during Round Robin play following the completion of the tournament.

After wrapping-up the round robin with a perfect 3-0 record, Reschny spoke to Double J Sports about his team coming together for these big moments.

“We’ve got a really young group,” says Reschny. “But we all came together and pushed through adversity throughout the year. It’s exciting for the team to be here, we’re all really proud of each other to be in this tournament. It’s a great group we have here.”

The Saskatoon Blazers’ dominance was felt early during the round robin portion of the tournament. The Blazers won over the Thunder Bay Kings by a score of 7-0 (Reschny – 1G, 1A), 8-2 over the Winnipeg Wild (1G, 1A), and 6-3 over the tournament hosts, the Warman Wildcats (1G, 2A, 1st Star).

The Blazers would see the Warman Wildcats in the finals just a day after playing them in the round robin. The Wildcats held their own, scoring in the final two minutes to force overtime, but the Blazers would come away with a 4-3 win. Reschny had a goal in their championship victory.

The Blazers will now prepare to play some of Canada’s bests teams in the Men’s U18 National Club Championship in Saint-Hyacinthe Quebec from April 24th to April 30th.

Reschny was the Royals 1st round pick, 3rd overall in the 2022 WHL Prospects Draft. In his season with the Blazers, Reschny tallied 23 goals and 42 assists for 65 points in 34 games. He played 4 games with the Royals last season, and scored his first WHL goal on November 19th, 2022.
